BIOGRAPHY

During her 15 years as a finance lawyer in London and Tokyo, Kaleya strove for a better work-life balance; eventually, while pregnant with her third child, she decided to switch paths and pursue her first love - music.

Born and educated in London, she was classically trained in piano and violin, achieving Grade 8 distinction in both by the age of 14. While still at school, she performed classical works in notable venues throughout London, including the Royal Festival Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and the Royal Society. During her university years, she worked part-time as a professional musician, performing in orchestras and playing electric violin in bands and evening music clubs.

Having long admired the musicality of midcentury pop songs and jazz standards (e.g. Cole Porter, George Gershwin etc.), Kaleya's work seeks to emulate the sophisticated style and classic vocals of these timeless tracks, melding jazz chords and moving melodies with contemporary instrumentation.

She is currently based in Tokyo with her husband and three young daughters, and enjoys the fresh challenge of balancing parenting with songwriting, recording and performing.
